A unique voice is always current, especially at times of change.

My experience at the spectacular event called Burning Man, again brought up the issue which I, and now LA and I, are constantly facing: Why do people who claim to understand and love what we do vehemently (not apologetically or humbly) suggest events, venues, spaces, et al. that are completely unsupportive and sometimes destructive of our prayformance? How many times have I heard: “Burning Man is perfect for you”?
No, it’s not. It could be, if prayformance was possible. The people there would appreciate us, their ideas and philosophies about commerce, art and ethics coincide with ours. However, the hostility of the environment — the searing dryness, the fine dust and dust storms, the heat and unrelenting sun — is perfect for “survival chic” but imperfect for a prayformance using sensitive musical instruments and finely tuned voices. In addition, one cannot find a single resonant space on the entire playa. Thus, since my life and death is pledged to prayformance, Burning Man is the antithesis of perfect for me, for us. It is in fact a mirage.
I am, and have been, a burning man and need not go to the desert to prove it.
