Many create children, but few are truly parents: some have children by mistake and pin their error upon the child like a donkey’s tail; some have children through ego and the desire to sustain their legacy, and when the child rejects the laid out path, then he or she is likewise rejected; some have children as playthings and forever criticize the child for not continuing to be a ball or a slinky or a pretty picture; some have children to fulfill idealistic or religious duty and when the child follows a different religious, political, or philosophic path then he or she is cast out. A true parent is not one who is flawless, but one who gives their unconditional and permanent support to their child — the new being entering the universe through their infant — for the rest of both of their lives, whatever choices he or she may make.

The main difference between the extraordinary and the normal person is the courage to make bold choices in the face of violent opposition.
